Last updated September 2026. The Seville to Granada train route has direct Renfe Avant services from Santa Justa, so a change is not automatically necessary. The harder decision is whether your outward train, Alhambra entry slot and return journey fit together. Start with those three bookings, allow for Granada's local transfers, and consider an overnight stay if the available times leave little room for delays.

Seville to Granada by Train at a Glance
Use this guide for the Granada-specific decisions; the Seville train and bus day-trip comparison covers the other destinations. A route existing does not establish a particular departure, ticket price or seat availability. We confirmed Renfe's direct service but could not retrieve a dated rail quotation for Tuesday 15 September 2026, so the coach example below is explicitly a separate option.
- Departure: Sevilla Santa Justa station, not the city's bus terminal.
- Arrival: Granada railway station on Avenida de los Andaluces; the Alhambra is a separate local journey.
- Through-train operator confirmed: Renfe Avant. Inspect the changes field when comparing connecting itineraries.
- Rail duration and price: use the actual outward and return results for your date; no verified live rail fare is quoted here.
- Alhambra General: advertised at €22.27 on the official ticket site, with a timed Nasrid Palaces visit and current partial-closure notices.
- Alternative checked: Alsa between Seville Plaza de Armas and Granada bus station, with three-hour direct journeys on Tuesday 15 September.
Direct Renfe Avant Trains and Connecting Options
Yes, direct Seville–Granada trains exist. Renfe's restoration notice identifies the Sevilla–Córdoba–Granada Avant service, and its 17 July 2026 update confirms that these Andalusian Avant links continue with adjusted schedules. Calling at intermediate stations is not the same as changing trains. In the booking results, distinguish one through train from an itinerary assembled from multiple services. The current OUIGO destination list and iryo destination list do not include Granada. A reseller showing one of those brands on a connecting itinerary does not make it an OUIGO or iryo through train to Granada. If you choose a connection, check its station, platforms, transfer time and ticket conditions; do not assume an arbitrary 20-minute gap is protected or suitable for your mobility needs.
How to Check Journey Times, Fares and Ticket Conditions
Search Sevilla Santa Justa to Granada and the reverse direction in Renfe's official booking route. Record departure and arrival times, number of changes, the train category and the full quoted price for each leg. The dated timetable service failed during this review; generic first-departure text and station arrival boards are not a complete, date-specific return itinerary. We therefore do not repeat the draft's unsupported fastest-time, daily-frequency or fare claims. Compare the complete journey offered, including any connection, rather than a headline average. Read the fare's change, cancellation and baggage terms before paying. Do not apply AVE seating classes or ticket tiers automatically to an Avant ticket. If your date is not available to book, that alone does not tell you whether sales have not opened, trains are unavailable or a timetable change is pending; ask Renfe before committing to non-refundable accommodation or attraction tickets.
Granada Station to the Centre and the Alhambra

Adif places Granada station on Avenida de los Andaluces, s/n. It is not Granada Estación de Autobuses, and neither terminal is at the Alhambra entrance. The municipal station-transfer guide directs passengers up Avenida de los Andaluces to Avenida de la Constitución for bus 4, or 150 metres farther to buses 21 or 33 by Hotel Tent. Alight at Catedral for the historic centre. The station also has a metro stop, Estación de Ferrocarril, but that does not provide a direct metro ride to the Alhambra. For an onward C32 bus, note the separate diversion notice below rather than assuming the normal cathedral boarding point is in use.
- Bus 4: the municipality lists a €1.60 ticket bought at the blue stop machines, not from the driver. Validate a transport card at the outside reader as instructed.
- Buses 21 and 33: the municipal guide lists €1.60 paid to the driver. Keep the ticket; the published transfer window is 60 minutes from purchase.
- Current diversion: the tourism homepage recommends C32 from Calle Pavaneras because of Calle Santiago works. Check current stop notices before setting out.
- For the Alhambra, the municipal guide distinguishes Generalife for ticket offices from Palacio de Carlos V or Puerta de la Justicia for the Nasrid Palaces area. These are not interchangeable arrival points for a timed ticket.
- As an editorial planning allowance, leave around two hours between arrival at the rail or coach terminal and a fixed Nasrid slot when using local transport. This includes waiting, walking and orientation; it is not a measured connection guarantee. Allow more for reduced mobility or disruption.
Alhambra Tickets, Timed Entry and September Notices
Match the outward journey, Nasrid Palaces slot and return journey before paying. The sample 13:00 palace slot is illustrative, not a checked ticket offer; allow for local travel and current closures.
Buy the monument ticket separately from your train or bus ticket. The official Alhambra General product is advertised at €22.27 and includes a reserved Nasrid Palaces time. Its ordinary daytime hours are 08:30–20:00 from 1 April to 14 October and 08:30–18:00 from 15 October to 31 March, but dated notices take precedence. A displayed price is not confirmation that your preferred slot is available. The Patronato's visit-planning page suggests roughly three hours for the monument; that is sightseeing time, not the station transfer. Arrive at the correct palace access for your assigned slot, not merely somewhere inside the wider grounds.
- Checked 13 September 2026: the official ticket homepage lists a special 08:30–14:00 public visit on Sunday 13 September because of the Vuelta, alongside traffic restrictions on 12–13 September. Do not apply that closing time automatically to Tuesday 15 September.
- The same homepage currently warns that the Alcazaba and access to Torre de Comares are closed. Generic ticket coverage does not override these safety closures; recheck before booking.
- Bring your original DNI or passport and the QR ticket. If collecting or purchasing a Nasrid-inclusive ticket at the monument counter, the published requirement is at least one hour before the palace slot.
- A gardens ticket is not a substitute for a ticket including the Nasrid Palaces. Missing the reserved palace time can mean losing access, even if you reached Granada on time.
Day Trip or Overnight: Build the Day Around Your Bookings

A day trip is possible only when the actual transport pair and your chosen activities fit; a fast one-way train does not prove that you have a usable day. Subtract local journeys, boarding time, meals and the monument visit from the interval between arrival in Granada and your booked departure. For a city-only day, choose a manageable walk around the centre and Realejo, then add hillside districts only if time and energy allow. If the Alhambra is the priority, secure a compatible palace slot and leave the rest of the day flexible. An overnight stay is our recommendation when you want both an unhurried monument visit and time in the Albaicín, or when only an early palace slot is available. The worked example below uses the verified Tuesday bus pair, not an assumed train timetable.
| Stage | Tuesday 15 September example | What the time means |
|---|---|---|
| Outbound coach | 08:00–11:00 | Alsa Plaza de Armas to Granada bus station; a dated result. |
| Arrival and monument transfer | 11:00–13:00 | Editorial two-hour allowance for local transport, orientation and a break. |
| Alhambra visit | 13:00–16:00 | Illustrative three-hour block; a 13:00 Nasrid ticket was not verified or reserved. |
| Remaining time before return preparation | 16:00–17:00 | An hour for a short stop or food, not a second substantial sightseeing itinerary. |
| Return transfer and boarding buffer | 17:00–18:30 | Editorial allowance to reach the bus terminal; extend it if traffic or mobility needs require. |
| Return coach | 18:30–21:30 | Alsa Granada bus station to Plaza de Armas; a dated result. |
Alsa Bus Alternative: A Dated Fare and Return Pair
The official Alsa search for one adult aged 26–59 on Tuesday 15 September 2026 showed direct 08:00–11:00 and 09:00–12:00 departures from Sevilla (Plaza De Armas) to Granada Estación De Autobuses. Return options included 17:30–20:30 and 18:30–21:30. Each of these results was advertised from €28.23 without a multi-trip pass. Two such single fares therefore start at €56.46 before any checkout extras; this is not a guaranteed round-trip package price. Do not mistake the advertised €16.10 per-journey multi-trip-pass figure for an ordinary single ticket. The 08:00 outward and 18:30 return leave 7 hours 30 minutes between arrival and departure in Granada, with six hours on the coaches and a 13-hour-30-minute terminal-to-terminal day. The results also contained slower itineraries, so three hours is not universal. Check Plaza de Armas access in Seville and add the Granada transfer: the municipal guide specifies bus 33 from outside the coach terminal, €1.60 paid to the driver, towards Catedral. Compare these end-to-end costs and times with your actual Renfe result; we have not established that bus is always cheaper or faster.
Booking Order and Mistakes to Avoid
Before paying, keep the selected outward journey, return journey and attraction slot open together and check that each remains available. No seats or attraction tickets were purchased for this review. A quoted fare, an illustrative itinerary and a confirmed booking are three different things. If you are staying overnight, also check hotel check-in and bag storage rather than assuming either transport terminal can hold your luggage.
- Check the exact station names in both directions; Granada railway station and Granada bus station require different local transfers.
- Read any connection and disruption details in the transport results. Do not apply an old Málaga engineering notice automatically to the Seville–Granada service.
- Choose a return departure before filling the day with sightseeing, and follow the operator's boarding instructions with additional time for your needs.
- Keep the Nasrid Palaces deadline separate from the monument's general opening time and from your arrival time in Granada.
- Recheck Alhambra closures and C32 diversions immediately before travel. A historical station photo or luxury-train video is not current operational evidence.
Other Seville Day Trips if Granada Does Not Fit
Choose alternatives by the sights you want and the timetable you can actually book, not by an unsupported ranking of journey times. Córdoba by train offers a different historic-city day, while Osuna's rail and bus options need to be matched with its guided monument opening times. For the Atlantic side, compare Cádiz transport and old-town planning, Jerez station and sightseeing choices, or Huelva's rail and coach connections. If you prefer a coach-focused trip, Ronda has a direct bus alternative to indirect rail; it is not a town without a railway. Carmona buses and Sanlúcar de Barrameda buses cover two other car-free options without a direct passenger train from Seville. Each linked guide separates transport from admission and local access, so use the current return pair rather than assuming every alternative guarantees a fuller day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a direct train from Seville to Granada?
Yes. Renfe confirms a direct Avant service on the Sevilla–Córdoba–Granada route. Check your selected departure: booking searches can also offer connecting itineraries. Intermediate stops on a through train do not require you to change.
How long does the train from Seville to Granada take?
Use the duration shown for your specific Renfe departure, including any connection. We confirmed the route but could not retrieve a dated rail quotation for 15 September 2026; this guide therefore does not claim a current fastest time or average. The three-hour journeys in the worked example are Alsa coaches, not trains.
How much does the Seville to Granada train cost?
No dated rail fare was verified in this review. Search the outward and return journeys with Renfe and read the selected ticket conditions. OUIGO and iryo do not list Granada as a destination for their own trains, so their headline fares elsewhere are not through-train prices for this route.
Is it better to take the train or bus from Seville to Granada?
Compare the complete journeys on your date. Renfe offers direct Avant trains from Santa Justa; Alsa offers direct coaches from Plaza de Armas. On Tuesday 15 September, selected three-hour Alsa results were advertised from €28.23 each way. Granada coach and railway stations are different, and both need onward travel to the Alhambra.
Can you day-trip to Granada from Seville by train?
It can work if the actual outward and return trains leave enough time for local transfers and your activities. Do not book an Alhambra slot immediately after train arrival. Our dated bus example leaves 7 hours 30 minutes in Granada but makes a 13-hour-30-minute terminal-to-terminal day; it is not proof of the rail timetable. An overnight stay allows a less compressed visit.
Which station do trains to Granada leave from in Seville?
The confirmed route departs from Sevilla Santa Justa and arrives at Granada railway station on Avenida de los Andaluces. Alsa coaches in the example use Seville Plaza de Armas and Granada Estación de Autobuses instead.
Does the train ticket include the Alhambra?
No Alhambra admission is included in an ordinary train ticket. Book the monument separately: Alhambra General is advertised at €22.27, and the Nasrid Palaces have an assigned entry time. Bring the original identity document and QR ticket; check date-specific hours and partial closures.
Can I take a direct local bus from Granada station to the Alhambra?
The municipal rail-station guide describes a journey via the centre, not a direct bus from the railway entrance. Buses 4, 21 or 33 serve the centre from Avenida de la Constitución; an onward C32 serves the Alhambra area. The current tourism homepage recommends boarding C32 on Calle Pavaneras during Calle Santiago works, so check the diversion before travelling.
