Choose between SUMA and the Valencia Tourist Card by comparing the ticket product, zones and journeys you need. SUMA 10 is an integrated ten-journey ticket; the physical card is only its reusable holder. SUMA T offers unlimited travel for a set period. The Tourist Card adds visitor benefits to transport. Airport access and train destinations matter as much as the number of rides.

What Is the SUMA Card, and What Is the Valencia Tourist Card?
ATMV’s SUMA conditions distinguish the ticket from the card it is loaded onto. SUMA 10 covers ten integrated journeys within the zones purchased on Metrovalencia, EMT, Metrobús and participating Cercanías services. It is not a card that charges the normal single bus or metro fare each time. By contrast, the Valencia Tourist Card covers 24, 48 or 72 hours of visitor travel, with Renfe coverage limited to zones AB and the airport metro stop included. Compare both with the network overview before choosing.

Cost and Coverage Comparison: SUMA Card vs Valencia Tourist Card
Compare three products, rather than treating every reloadable card as the same fare. SUMA 10 suits a fixed number of trips, SUMA T/T+ suits concentrated transport use, and the Tourist Card includes visitor benefits. Prices can reflect temporary public-transport discounts, so compare the current selling price for your exact zone combination, plus any new card charge. A tourist pass does not automatically win just because you use several modes.
| Feature | SUMA products | Valencia Tourist Card |
| Cost basis | Ten journeys with SUMA 10, or timed unlimited travel with SUMA T/T+; card support may cost extra | One price for a 24/48/72-hour card |
| Airport coverage | Choose a ticket explicitly including Aeroport; ordinary SUMA T excludes it | Airport metro stop included |
| Rail zones | Zone combination selected when buying; check each destination | Metro AB including airport; Cercanías AB only |
| Tram | Included within the loaded product’s rules | Included during active validity |
| Renfe Cercanías | Included within purchased SUMA zones and participating services | Included only within AB; not long-distance trains |
| Bus network | EMT and participating Metrobús routes within validity | Covered city/metropolitan services; check exclusions for private shuttles |
| After validity ends | Keep the card for eligible reloads | Renew or replace the expired pass before travelling |
- SUMA 10 often suits people sharing a modest number of city journeys across a longer stay. Check whether the required number of ten-trip loads costs less than singles, and include a card fee only when you need a new card.
- For many journeys over one to three days, compare the transport-only SUMA T/T+ first. Add the Tourist Card only if the transport coverage and the attractions you will actually visit justify its current price.
- Use ATMV’s product conditions and Visit València’s Tourist Card information to compare coverage, then check the current checkout or ticket-machine prices. Do not calculate savings using old discounted SUMA prices.

Who Should Choose the SUMA Card
SUMA 10 works well when you want flexibility about which days you travel, or when your route mixes metro, tram and bus. A single purchase covers ten qualifying journeys rather than ten unrelated full-price singles. Transfer rules and zones still apply: validate each leg and do not assume a long excursion is covered by a central-city ticket.
- Short stays with only a few transit trips planned
- Travelers walking most of the city and using transit occasionally
- Return visitors who already hold a SUMA card from a previous trip
Who Should Choose the Valencia Tourist Card
The Tourist Card can be convenient if you will use its included municipal museums and monuments as well as transport. Admission to major privately priced attractions is not automatically included; some are discounted or sold as separate packages. Compare the actual benefits you intend to use against SUMA T/T+ rather than counting every advertised discount as a saving.
- Visitors arriving via the airport who want one purchase to cover the ride in
- Multi-mode travel across metro, tram, bus, and train within a 1-3 day window
- Families or groups wanting to avoid buying separate tickets for each trip
Buying and Loading Each Card in Valencia
Buy or reload SUMA products through authorised transport sales points and ticket machines; choose the product and zone combination on the screen before paying. Obtain the Tourist Card through Visit València and follow its collection and activation instructions. A booking email is not necessarily a usable transport card. Keep your card until the end of every journey and validate at each required reader.
Airport Arrival: Which Card Gets You Into the City
Metro lines 3 and 5 connect Aeroport with central Valencia. For SUMA, choose a product that explicitly includes the airport stop: SUMA T+ or the appropriate SUMA 10 zone combination. A city-only load is insufficient. The Tourist Card includes the airport metro within its active window. See the airport transfer guide before deciding when to activate a timed pass.
Beach Day by Tram: Coverage for the Coast
For the beaches, SUMA 10 uses its integrated journey allowance on eligible metro/tram combinations, rather than charging a separate €2 city-bus fare for every tram. The Tourist Card covers the same journey during its validity. Use the beach route guide to choose the correct interchange and coastal stop.
Walkable Sightseeing Days With Minimal Transit
On a day spent following the old-town walking route, you may need very little transport. Buying a Tourist Card solely for that day can waste its timed validity. Count any included attraction entries you genuinely plan to use before deciding.
Arriving by Cruise: Card Coverage for the Port Route
Neither SUMA nor the Tourist Card automatically pays for a cruise-line shuttle, taxi or private transfer inside the port. They can cover eligible public transport toward the waterfront, but the last leg depends on the assigned berth. Read the cruise-port transfer guide before counting the whole journey as included.
Final Verdict: SUMA Card or Valencia Tourist Card?
Pick SUMA 10 for a defined bundle of journeys, compare SUMA T/T+ for unlimited transport over consecutive hours, and choose the Tourist Card when its visitor benefits add value. Check zones, airport inclusion, activation time and the fare currently displayed. Long-distance rail tickets to places such as Alicante are separate purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the SUMA card be shared between travelers?
SUMA 10 can be used by people travelling together under its group-use rules; validate for every person and keep the party together through entry, interchange and exit. Personal or timed products have different conditions. Do not assume one Tourist Card covers a whole family.
Does either card cover the airport route?
Only an airport-valid SUMA product covers Aeroport. Ordinary SUMA T does not, whereas SUMA T+ does. The Valencia Tourist Card includes the airport metro during its active validity window.
Which is cheaper for a weekend trip?
Compare SUMA 10 and SUMA T/T+ with the current Tourist Card price and the attractions you will actually visit. A weekend with frequent transport use does not automatically make the Tourist Card cheaper.
Can unused Valencia Tourist Card time be extended?
Treat the purchased 24/48/72-hour window as fixed. Check Visit València’s current renewal, top-up and refund conditions before buying another product; an expired transport window cannot be used for another journey.
Is the SUMA card reusable on a future visit?
Keep the reusable support and check that it remains valid for the product you want to reload on a future visit. The journeys or timed pass loaded onto it have their own validity rules; unused credit should not be assumed valid indefinitely.
